About Social Housing in the Vale

We do not manage any Social Housing.  Housing Associations own and manage all Social Housing in the Vale.

We manage the Housing Register which lists people who require Social Housing.  We nominate these people to Housing Associations when a suitable home is available, and they have been successful in bidding for it.

  • The homes do not have furniture or kitchen appliances (cooker, fridge etc.).
  • Most have a bath rather than a shower.  If there is a shower, this will usually be mentioned in the advert.
  • Many of the homes which were owned by the Council and are now owned by the Vale Housing Association) are over 30 years old.
  • Not all have gardens or parking spaces.
  • Some have sheds for extra storage.
  • Newer properties may have off street parking, good storage space and provision for kitchen and laundry appliances.
  • Housing Associations are working hard to make sure that their properties reach the Government's "Decent Home" standard.
  • Housing Associations must keep their properties in good repair.

These pages give a simple general summary. Housing law and policy is very complicated and individual cases may not follow this pattern. Ring Housing Advice for help if you are uncertain.
