CHANGE OF CIRCUMSTANCES

You must tell us if you change address. If you move and don't tell us, your application will be cancelled. This means that you will need to re-apply and will have lost any "time waiting."

  • You will have to complete a new form and provide proof that you live there.
  • If your banding changes as a result, we will tell you.
  • Your original application date is still used to decide your priority in that band.

You must also tell us if your circumstances change; for instance if you have a baby, someone leaves your household, or somebody becomes ill or disabled. If you do not tell us, you may be skipped for an offer of accommodation.

If you deliberately choose to change address, and this means your circumstances become worse, your banding will be based on where you lived for the last 12 months, and not the new accommodation.

You may face a court case if you:

  • Give us information which you know is not true or
  • Do not give us information which we have asked you to provide as part of your housing application.

These pages give a simple general summary. Housing law and policy is very complicated and individual cases may not follow this pattern. Ring Housing Advice for help if you are uncertain.
